Welcome to Teignmouth Community School Mill Lane by Miss K Quinn
I would like to offer a very warm welcome to the Teignmouth Community School Primary Phase website. I am sure many things have led you to visit this website. These may have included the last Good Ofsted report; the children’s academic achievements, our Read Write Inc model school status, our child led creative curriculum, dedicated Literacy and Numeracy time within the curriculum, our seaside location and many other excellent and attractive features.
However, none of these fully convey our commitment to the young people of this South Devon town. Our growing success over the last three years has led us to the position of achieving very good outcomes in everything we do. Our aim is to go one better
At Teignmouth Community School, Mill Lane we believe that the individual relationships developed between adults, children and families are central in supporting all children to achieve their full potential, in learning and in life.
Our team of dedicated teachers and teaching assistants, work together to ensure that all children make great progress. We are committed to providing a happy, well disciplined, nurturing environment, where children can thrive.
Our ‘Stay on Green’ behaviours of honesty, respect, resilience, consideration, teamwork, responsibility, communication and independence encourage the children to work their hardest and support each other, at all times. In EYFS and KS1, these behaviours are accompanied by a character and story to help the children understand these core values. These characters are Olivia the honest Owl, Lenny the respectful Lion, Theo the resilient Turtle, Ernie the considerate Elephant, Betty the team working Bee, Sidney the responsible Squirrel, Daisy the communicative Dolphin and Charlie the independent Crocodile. The stories are shared during assemblies every week.
We are proud of our creative curriculum, which is enhanced by outdoor learning. Every child will be able to take part in a wide variety of opportunities; forest school, residential trips, sporting activities, performances and enrichment trips are an intrinsic part of this curriculum and we place great importance on these areas. Through these activities children can develop an understanding of the wider world, their place within it and how they can make a difference.
In January 2017, we opened our new Early Years building and tailor made outdoor classroom, which adds many more possibilities and opportunities that we are keen to exploit for the benefit of the school and wider community.
Visitors often comment on the friendly, purposeful atmosphere and the range and quality of work going on here.
We always enjoy showing people around our school and if you would like to make an appointment to what we have to offer, please contact us on 01626 772320.

Welcome to Teignmouth Community School Exeter Road by Mr J Beardmore, Principal
I am delighted to welcome you to our website. It marks the beginning of a lasting relationship between school and home, the strongest of bonds in supporting your child throughout his or her school career with us, helping prepare for next steps beyond secondary school.
Ours is a unique learning community, committed to encouraging our students to reach far and aim high. We are passionate about learning in the classroom and outside of school, and about providing a secure, nurturing environment in which every child will thrive. From day one, we want our students to enjoy school, to be excited by their learning and committed to achieving their very best. We aim to build their confidence about the future, and we are dedicated to providing a safe, happy and supportive environment in which they will progress both as individuals and in collaboration with others.
For us, “learning” goes well beyond the diverse range of academic and vocational subjects and qualifications we offer, and the “curriculum” means more than lessons. These words describe the full breadth of experience available in our school: academic, social, sporting, recreational, and the importance of developing skills as well as acquiring knowledge. Long-term success is partly about establishing good life-long learning habits and characteristics early on, a strong sense of personal responsibility and a deeper understanding of the world around us. This is what we do.
Young people need variety, breadth and depth of experience in order to grow: they need to test and stretch their understanding and broaden their minds. In this way, we want to equip our students with the skills they need to take their place as global citizens in a complex and changing world. Our role is to challenge and inspire your child in equal measure and to identify, celebrate and encourage his or her unique talents and achievements.
As you tour the site, you will see why we are proud of the high standard of our facilities and resources; indeed since becoming an academy we have continued to benefit from considerable sums in capital investment. But we are also proud of the atmosphere for learning and our mantra that every child has the right to learn. The calmness and purpose felt around the school site is frequently observed by visitors, and this reinforces the fact that the safety, well-being and happiness of your child is paramount at all times.
I hope this introduction gives you a flavour of what we are about at Teignmouth Community School. Working together we can achieve great things for your child. I look forward to meeting you.
