Jason Beardmore – Principal, Exeter Road
Jason took up the post as Principal of Teignmouth Community School, Exeter Road in September 2016. In addition to two previous Headship posts, Jason’s past education roles include Vice Principal, Head of Faculty and Department/Subject Leader. Jason’s teaching career has been based primarily in Devon schools and he has been a local resident of Teignmouth for a number of years. Jason is the Leadership team link for the Effectiveness of Leadership and Management portfolio.
Alison was appointed as a Director in December 2016. She works in medical communications for an American biopharmaceutical company. An Arts graduate, she has spent her working life focusing on making technical information meaningful to lay audiences. She volunteers on research ethics committees, mostly as a Vice Chair. Alison is a town and district councillor for Teignmouth central ward. Alison is Deputy Portfolio Holder for the Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment portfolio.
Andrew was appointed a Director in December 2012 and has daughter at the school. He is a Chartered Accountant and is Managing Director of a software company. Andrew is Vice Chair of the Finance Committee.
Tony Gray – CEO, Teignmouth Learning Trust
Tony has taken up a new role as Chief Executive Officer of the Trust after 5 years as Executive Principal of Teignmouth Community School, and before that 8 years as Principal of Teignmouth Community College. He has worked in 2 other Devon schools: as Deputy Headteacher at Teign School, and Principal at Holsworthy Community College, since moving down from The Castle School, Somerset in 1994. Tony’s connection with the school began in 1995 as a local resident of Teignmouth and parent with his son attending the college.
Pat is a retired Primary Head Teacher, with 20 years of headship experience within the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames. She led 2 schools at either end of the socio-economic spectrum, working closely with the LA to set up loose federations with the LA Secondary Schools in order to improve the process of transition between KS2 and KS3. Pat is Portfolio Holder for the Early Years portfolio.
Pip was appointed as a Director in December 2016 and has two children at the school. Pip works in Corporate Social Responsibility for a multi-national IT company and as part of this manages corporate school partnerships in Reading and Leatherhead. Pip is Deputy Portfolio Holder for two portfolios: Outcomes for Children and Other Learners, and Early Years.
Alan has been on the Board for over 15 years. He is married with grandchildren here and in the USA. His career was in Secondary schools and Higher Education. His interests include international opportunities, enhancing the school grounds and working for the best facilities. Alan is Portfolio Holder for Physical Resources which include buildings, grounds, and major assets.
Liz was appointed to the Board in February 2015. She has 20 years’ experience of strategic and operational Human Resources in large organisations such as Nortel and Flybe, and is currently Head of HR at Centek Group in Newton Abbot. Liz has also spent 3 years as a Non-Executive Director for a company in Cornwall and is experienced in working in partnership with Directors and Senior Management teams within business and education. Her son is a pupil at TCS and for 3 years she held the position of Parent Governor at Stokeinteignhead School. Liz is Portfolio Holder for the Human Resources portfolio.
Vic Millard – Vice Chair of Directors
After a career in marketing and operations on the boards of commercial retail and catering businesses, Vic is now semi-retired and involved in the home care of looked after children in Devon. He has been a Governor/Director of the school for many years. Vic was appointed Vice Chair of Directors in May 2016 and is Portfolio Holder for the Effectiveness of Leadership and Management portfolio, Portfolio Holder for Financial Resources and Chair of the Finance Committee.
Sarah became a Director of Teignmouth Community School in 2013 having previously served as a Parent Governor of Teignmouth Community College, prior to it becoming an academy. She was a Parent Governor of Shaldon Primary School for six years and has four children, two of whom are currently studying at University and one still studying at the school. Sarah is Portfolio Holder for the Effectiveness of Teaching, Learning and Assessment portfolio and the school’s Student Safeguarding Officer.
Mark Moore – Chair of Directors
Mark was appointed to the Board as a Director in December 2014, and became Chair in May 2016. He has been a police officer with Devon and Cornwall Constabulary since 1995 and is currently Chief Inspector. His most recent roles include Head of Policing in Teignbridge; Head of Operations Training at Middlemoor; and as a management consultant to the National Policing Improvement Agency. Mark has two children studying at the school. Mark is Portfolio Holder for Outcomes for Children and Other Learners, which incorporates Performance, and Disadvantaged Students, and Deputy for Effectiveness of Leadership and Management.
Katy Quinn – Principal, Mill Lane
Katy is the Principal of Teignmouth Community School, Mill Lane. Prior to her appointment as a Director in October 2016, Katy also served as Company Secretary to the Trust and was part of the team who effected the academisation of the then Teignmouth Community College and Inverteign Primary School in March 2011. Katy is a longstanding member of the school leadership, having previously held the position of Assistant Principal at Exeter Road.
Sarah was appointed a Director in December 2015 and is a qualified solicitor specialising in Property Litigation. An ex-student of the school and long-term resident of Teignmouth, Sarah has two children whom she anticipates will attend TCS in the future. Sarah is Portfolio Holder for Safeguarding and the Director Responsible for Safeguarding.
Mike was appointed as a Director in December 2016. He is a long-term Teignmouth resident whose children previously attended the then Teignmouth Community College. Mike is recently retired from NHS Mental Health Services and has an interest in children’s wellbeing and learning. He is a mentor with Early Help for Mental Health; a volunteer at a primary school; and a volunteer with Year 7 and 8 accelerated readers at TCS. Mike is the Portfolio Holder for the Personal Development, Welfare and Behaviour portfolio, and the Director Responsible for Children in Care.
