This term saw the opening of the college’s newly equipped, state of the art Science Department. It has been exciting to witness the development of this project over the past six months and housing the previous split site department in one area will benefit the students and staff enormously. The acquisition of three new laboratories and one new prep room, all fully equipped with the latest scientific equipment, are a huge asset to the college. |

At TCC enthusiasm for reading is growing. We now have regular cross college “Drop Everything and Read” days each term. The national “Booked Up” scheme (which has been running for three years) has given every Year 7 child a free book from a specially selected range of titles each year. These initiatives strongly support the existing work undertaken by our English department, the one to one coaching of the toe by toe program in CAL, the ongoing monthly Book Group, and Carnegie Shadowing Group held in the summer.

The Examinations Officer is currently preparing entries for this summer’s exams. Students in Years 10 and 11 will shortly receive a personal “Statement of Entry” which lists their examination entries, and gives the dates of the examinations. Attached to the Statement of Entry is a letter for parents to read through with the students regarding the names which will be printed on the certificates. A copy of the Statutory Notice to Candidates is also attached to the letter, which both students and parents should read together, and then both sign the confirmation slip which should be returned to the Examinations Officer. A copy of the letter concerned and the Notice to Candidates can be accessed via “students”, then “exam information”.
Students in the Sixth Form will receive their Statements of Entry on 26 February. Personal Timetables for all students, which give the exact timings and rooms to be used for each examination, will be issued before we break for Easter on 1 April. Please contact the Examinations Officer, Mrs Julia Sutherland, if you have any queries.

Students at Teignmouth Community College have raised a whopping £2123.39 towards helping their friend and fellow student, Jasmine Flay, go to America for some pioneering cancer treatment.
Jasmine suffers from a very rare form of cancer and visits Sheffield Hospital regularly for treatment and has had numerous operations, but so far there is no medicine that can help her. Sheffield Hospital has recommended that Jasmine takes part in a trial in America, where results are proving positive. Jasmine will need to be in America for 3 months for treatment and will then need to return for a week of check-ups every 2 months, for a year.
